WORK- IN-PROCESS SHOWING OF NEW WORK
This New Work (working title: Moonlit Mountain) is inspired by six poems from Yurko Kharytun's book of poetry, My Sorrows, and the film Potopa (Flood). These works detail the displacement of nearly 3,500 Carpatho-Rusyn people from 7 villages to enable the construction of the Starina Reservoir to provide drinking water for Eastern Slovakia during the 1980's. They are illustrative in their description of the loss of habitat and home, the dispersion and disruption of community, and geo-political climate of communist Czechoslovakia.
Featuring a cast of 6 dancers, this WIP showing culminates the end of their second research phase for this work which began with their research and development residency in Slovakia this past summer.
