Join Doma in hosting Artistic Director Alexandra Bodnarchuk and Viliam Mikula of PUL’S Presov for a 10 day research residency at Doma’s studio this August! During this time Bodnarchuk will study Carpatho Rusyn dances from the Saris region of Northeastern Slovakia with Mikula, and develop the material through contemporary dance techniques.

Community Dance Class at International Dance Night

Join Bodnarchuk & Mikula at International Dance Night at Tapestry Folkdance Center! During this 60 min lesson participants will learn some dances from the Saris region of Eastern Slovakia.

After the instruction, it’s time for request dancing from our large collection of recorded music. Everyone is welcome to stay. The programmer (DJ) creates a set from a list of requests generated by attendees. The programmer chooses a range of dances, from basic patterns to tricky sequences.

Lecture/Demonstration

Join Doma and the Rusin Association in hosting a lecture/demonstration with Mikula and Bodnarchuk. Learn more about Carpatho Rusyn dances from the Saris region of Eastern Slovakia, including a short performance, and participatory (seated) exercise, followed by a Q&A.

Time: 11:30a

Location: Saint Mary’s Parish Center Gymnasium, 1701 5th St NE

No cost or pre-registration to attend. Donations encouraged.


Advanced Dance Class

This advanced class with Mikula and Bodnarchuk will serve as a platform for both choreographers to demonstrate and share research with advanced dancers. 

During this class dancers will learn traditional Saris steps with contemporary techniques, including solo and partnering footwork with rhythmic and self-percussive movement. There will be the opportunity for research time to dive into Bodnarchuk’s choreographic style and queries to deepen participants' understanding of folk and traditional forms and values in her choreographic language. Class will be followed by a Q&A.

This class is intended for advanced dancers ages 18+.

Time: 6p - 8p

Pre-registration encouraged, walk ups accepted.

This class is offered at no cost to participants. Donations accepted.
